Das SCUPA-Projekt befasst sich mit Erweiterungen für Microsoft Communicator 2007 R2. SCUPA ermöglicht es Nutzern, Kontakte direkt aus dem Kontext-Menü des Communicators auszuwählen und Anrufe via Desktop-IP-Telefon zu initiieren.

Mit Ausnahme des Nortel/Polycom Tanjay ist es aber nicht möglich, Endgeräte anderer Hersteller aus dem Communicator R2 heraus anzusprechen. Das Fehlen dieser Basisfunktionalität hat uns veranlasst, eine Erweiterung zu entwickeln, die diese Anforderung  abdeckt. In der ersten Version wurde dies für IP-Telefone der Marke SNOM realisiert.

Wir wollen unsere Idee als Proof of concept vorstellen, um festzustellen, ob andere Anwender ähnlich gute Erfahrungen mit SCUPA machen können.

SCUPA ist Freeware.

Der Download und die Nutzung von SCUPA sind kostenlos. SCUPA ist in kürzester Zeit installiert, konfiguriert und einsatzbereit.

Project SCUPA is about developing extensions and add-ons for Microsoft Communicator 2007 R2. SCUPA enables users to initiate calls via desktop IP phones by selecting contacts in the communicator menu.

Except for the Nortel/Polycom Tanjay, phones cannot be directly accessed from the Communicator application, a user therefore cannot initiate a phone-based VoIP call to an OCS contact from within Office Communicator. In our view, this lack of functionality severely hampers the usability of all other phones in an OCS environment. We have therefore developed an extension for Office Communicator 2007 R2 that enables call initiation with IP phones from within the application. In the first version, the extension is designed exclusively for the SNOM brand of IP phones.

The extension is in beta status and to be considered as a proof of concept. Please use this blog to let us know your opinions about SCUPA and if it succeeds in improving your user experience with OCS and SNOM phones. An English version will be provided shortly based on user feedback
